Matheesha Ranasinghe (27) is a talented pace bowler playing for Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club alongside Sanath Jayasuria in Sri Lanka's Premier 'A' first class competition. An outstanding bowler at under-23 level, Ranasinghe played his maiden first class season in 2002/03 and was a member of the National Fast Bowling Squad between 2004 and 2006. He has an impressive first class record, boasting 68 wickets at 23.55. He is also a useful contributor with the bat in the lower order, averaging 12.97 and 17.06 in first class and one-day fixtures respectively. He has scored fifties at this level, so is definitely no mug with the bat.

Unfortunately, Ranasinghe only played two first-class matches in the 2009/10 season as he was struck on the arm whilst batting in a pre-season game so was out injured for most of the season, albeit came back to play the final two fixtures prior to Christmas 2009. Ranasinghe spent his first season abroad in 2010 playing in the strong Liverpool and District League for St Helens. He was a revelation, taking 68 wickets at 11.41, then weighing in with 314 runs at 20.93.
